Central Mounting Cam Switch
ACXION Central Mounting Cam Switch is an internally mounted rotary selector switch for machine enclosures and custom switchgear assemblies, available in up to 16 positions and 12 sections — designed for OEM/ODM panel builders who need a reliable shaft-driven cam switch with flexible configuration and full IEC certification support.
ACXION Central Mounting Cam Switch is a rotary selector switch designed for internal cabinet installation rather than front-panel mounting. Its central mounting configuration makes it suitable for control cabinets, machine enclosures, and switchgear assemblies where the switch is mounted inside the cabinet body and operated through a shaft extension or remote handle — freeing up front panel space and allowing a cleaner panel layout. It is a practical choice for OEM/ODM equipment manufacturers who need a reliable rotary switch integrated into the internal structure of their control assemblies.
At ACXION, central mounting switches go through shaft torque testing in addition to standard contact testing — because in internal cabinet installations, operating feel and mechanical consistency matter as much as electrical performance. This is something we added to our QC process after feedback from machine tool OEM customers early in our export history.
Features
Internal cabinet mounting: Designed to mount within the cabinet rather than through the front panel — suitable for shaft-driven or remote-handle configurations where the operator interface and the switch body are in different locations.
Up to 16 positions and 12 sections: Handles complex multi-circuit switching requirements within a single switch unit, reducing internal component count.
Flexible step angles: Minimum 22.5°; standard options of 30°, 45°, 60°, and 90° to suit different shaft and handle travel requirements.
Dual terminal compatibility: Accepts both Y-type and OT-type crimp terminals without adapters.
Laser-engraved panel markings: Where a front panel label is used alongside the switch, permanent engraving in any language is available.

FAQ
Q1: What does “central mounting” mean and how is it different from a standard cam switch?
A standard cam switch mounts through a cutout in the front panel, with the switch body behind the panel and the handle protruding through to the front. A central mounting cam switch is designed to be fixed inside the cabinet at a specific mounting point — typically on a bracket, DIN rail adapter, or cabinet frame — and operated via a shaft that connects to a separate handle or knob on the front panel. This arrangement is used when the panel layout requires the operating handle to be in a different position from where the switch body can physically fit, or when a cleaner front panel appearance is needed with the switch mechanism kept entirely inside the enclosure.
Q2: What types of cabinets or enclosures is this switch typically used in?
Common applications include machine tool enclosures where the control panel and the switch mounting point are separated by the machine structure, custom switchgear assemblies with tight internal layouts, and industrial control cabinets where front panel space is limited and internal mounting is the preferred design approach. It is also used in retrofit situations where an existing panel cannot be modified but an additional switch function needs to be added internally.
Q3: Can the cam profile be customized for our switching sequence?
Yes. Custom switching sequences are available. Provide a switching table showing the required contact states in each position and we will configure the cam profile accordingly. A switching diagram is included with each custom order for your panel documentation.
Q4: Is this switch compatible with standard shaft and handle accessories?
Please confirm shaft diameter and coupling requirements with us at the time of ordering, as compatibility depends on your specific handle or shaft extension design. We recommend sharing your assembly drawing so we can confirm fit before production.
Q5: What is the typical packaging and lead time for bulk orders?
Standard configurations are packaged individually with protective packaging suitable for international shipping. Lead time for standard cam profiles is short; custom profiles require additional engineering review time before production begins. For large OEM orders, we can discuss dedicated production scheduling and custom packaging requirements — contact us with your order quantity and timeline and we will confirm what is achievable.
